The first ever Dinner Dance to raise funds for Hull HARP will be held in 2011. We plan to have a big band theme full of glamour and glitz, raffles and a date auction (we are looking for suitable candidates to be auctioned off). Still at the early stages, but we would welcome any support from businesses (either monetary or in kind!).

Response to imminent cuts from HHARP chair, Sandy Smith

' HullHARP is under threat as a result of Hull City Council's decision to reduce the amount available to the voluntary sector which provides support, supervision and guidance, to some of the most vulnerable within our community. HullHARP has worked, for many years, with some of the most difficult people, turning their lives around so they can make a valuable contribution to the communities in which they live. We have saved countless lives and saved the government and the Council millions of pounds in preventative work. Our contribution to the well being of Hull residents has been outstanding and valued by the community, so much so that Central Government have invested millions of pounds in a 'Place of Change' where even more positive work could be done with the most damaged people - the Crossings (the new purpose built hostel on Great Union Street) is in danger of never opening. The loss or reduction of Supporting People funding will ensure that the clients we deal with will be left vulnerable, and at risk of offending, abusing substances and sleeping rough. We have worked hard to reduce rough sleeping and we have been successful, we have done this with minimal government funding and now even that small amount of money is being withdrawn. Reductions in the Supporting People funding is a choice, the Council are proposing to reduce/withdraw this funding, it is their choice, we urge our supporters to write to their Councillors, respond to the consultation and continue to support HullHARP through this dark period in our history.'
